Lord Shiva’s encounter with a beautiful forest woman named Koolivaka led to the birth of Vishnumaya Kuttichatan. It was this meeting that led to the birth of Kuttichatan, who is the true Lord Vishnu, and Karimkutti Chatan.

Sometimes Lord Shiva had the habit of going hunting with Booth ganas. Once Lord Shiva took a pet dog and went to the forest for hunting. There he happened to meet a very beautiful woman named Koolivaka. At Kandamatra himself, Lord Shiva, who was attracted to a woman named Kooliwaka, asked her to bathe and be ready by the time he came back from hunting.

Confused, Kuliwaka prayed to Goddess Parvati at that moment. Goddess Parvati, wife of Lord Shiva, appeared in front of Koolivaka. Devi Parvati found a solution to this problem. He promised that he might go in the form of a coolie instead of a coolie.

Goddess Parvati went to meet Lord Vishnu to take the form of Koolivaka. Lord Vishnu assured that he would help Goddess Parvati. Thus, Goddess Parvati, who was disguised as Lord Vishnu, actually waited for Lord Shiva in the form of Koolivaka. Goddess Parvati in the form of Koolivaka, who entered into a physical relationship with Shiva, succeeded in pleasing Lord Shiva.

Lord Shiva went back to Kailash happily. Goddess Shri Parvati gave the boon to Kooliwaka that he would have the chance to actually protect the sons of Lord Shiva.

After some time, Goddess Parvati became pregnant. Shiva mixed the semen in two cassava and gave one to Koolivaka to eat. Another was buried by the river. After a few days, 300 children were born to Kooliwaka. The eldest child was called Karimkutty Chatan, the last born was called Kuttichatan, and Kuttichatan was later known as Vishnu Chatan. There is a reason why Kuttichatan is called Chatan, who is Vishnu.

After the boy grew up, he had a desire to see his father Lord Shiva. After taking his mother’s permission, he returned to Kailash to meet his father. But Nandikesan stopped Kuttichathan at the gate of Kailasam. Nandikesan made it clear that under no circumstances would he be allowed to see Lord Shiva.

Kuttichatan approached Lord Vishnu without any solution. Lord Vishnu transformed the child demon into Lord Vishnu’s form with his magic power. Nadikesan let the Kuttichatan, who took the form of Lord Vishnu, inside. Lord Shiva was very happy to see his son. Lord Shiva then called the Kuttichatan who came to him in the form of Maya as the Kuttichatan who was Vishnu.

He told his son to go to earth and bless the afflicted. Since then Kuttichatan was known as Kuttichatan who was actually Sri Vishnu. The Talat where Vishnuma Kuttichatan resides is also known as Sri Vishnuma Devasthanam.
